In the United States, Canada and other countries that use the UL standard, this means these products are in compliance with UL 121201 Class I, Division 2. In Europe, the products are now certified against IEC\/UL60335-2-40, Sect22.116 and Sect22.117.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<div style=\"mso-element: comment-list;\">\r\n<div style=\"mso-element: comment;\">\r\n<div id=\"_com_1\" class=\"msocomtxt\">\r\n\r\n<span style=\"mso-comment-author: 'Charlotte Warming Hansen'; mso-comment-providerid: AD; mso-comment-userid: S-1-5-21-1645522239-1708537768-1060284298-14722;\"><!--[endif]--><\/span>\r\n\r\n<!-- [if !supportAnnotations]-->\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!--[endif]-->\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div><h2>About the New Standards<\/h2>\n<p>UL 121201 is a safety standard developed for electrical equipment and systems intended for use in hazardous locations. The purpose is to ensure that such devices cannot produce enough heat or spark to ignite gases or dust. Class I of this standard refers to atmospheres where explosive gases \u2013 including flammable gases, flammable liquid-produced vapors, and combustible liquid-produced vapors \u2013 can occur. Division 2 means that ignitable concentrations of these gases are not likely to occur under normal operating conditions but result from events such as leaks and accidental releases.<\/p>\n<p>IEC60335-2-40 deals with the safety of electric heat pumps and air conditioners. Sec22.116 concerns arcs and sparks from electric components under normal operation and requires the use of seal relays in drives, while Sec22.117 involves hot surfaces, including in highly encapsulated drives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8764\" src=\"https:\/\/ojelectronics.com\/drives\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/11\/ahu-with-oj-dc-ignition-protected-300x169.png\" alt=\"OJ Electronics DV, DC and DRHX drives and MRHX motors are now certified as ignition-protected components\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ojelectronics.com\/drives\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/11\/ahu-with-oj-dc-ignition-protected-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/ojelectronics.com\/drives\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/11\/ahu-with-oj-dc-ignition-protected-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/ojelectronics.com\/drives\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/11\/ahu-with-oj-dc-ignition-protected-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/ojelectronics.com\/drives\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2024\/11\/ahu-with-oj-dc-ignition-protected.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Why Ignition-Protected<\/h2>\n<p>Government authorities worldwide are requiring manufacturers of refrigeration, air-conditioning and other equipment to replace fluorinated greenhouse gasses (\u201cF-gasses\u201d) with lower-emission alternatives. Scheduled to come into effect at different times for different system designs, A2L and A3 refrigerants will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from household and industrial applications.<\/p>\n<p>Progress often involves trade-offs, and this applies to many emission-reducing technologies. With R454C and R290, for example, one such trade-off is a lower ignition temperature. This lower temperature puts these gasses into higher flammability categories \u2013 A2L and A3, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the greater risk of flammability can be mitigated via updated component designs.
