Our newly updated OJ drives for compressors are a highly specialized solution designed for use with scroll compressors only. They are designed to serve one purpose – but to do that extraordinarily well. What Kind Punch Does the Compressor Drive Pack?

In this article, we will look at six particular strengths that make our compressor drives a great choice for your cooling compressors.

1. Advanced Oil Management

OJ compressor drives feature advanced oil-management technologies that protect your compressor both at startup and during low-speed operation. At startup, the system makes sure the oil pump inside the compressor is up and running and oil is distributed in the compressor well before it reaches its target speed. When running at lower speeds, oil trapped in the system is automatically returned via an oil-boost function.

2. Ignition Protected

Authorities are requiring manufacturers of cooling equipment to transition from fluorinated greenhouse gasses (“F-gasses”) to lower-emission alternatives such as propane. Our compressor drives are certified ignition protected, in accordance with IEC/UL60335-2-40 (Sc22.116 and Sc22.117) and UL 121201 (C1D2) standards. This ensures that your drives are propane-ready, whether you have already transitioned or plan to do so in the near future.

3. Safe Torque Off (STO)

Another advanced feature we’ve brought to these drives is “safe torque off” (STO), which ensures motor and system safety by preventing the compressor from running the compressor under unsafe conditions.

The STO technology in these drives is approved by TÜV and designed and approved in accordance with the requirements of EN ISO 13849-1:2023 (Category 3, Performance Level d), IEC 61508:2010 (SIL 2), IEC 61800-5-2:2016 (SIL 2) and IEC 62061:2021 (SIL CL 2).

4. Vibration Bypass

Our compressor drives feature vibration-bypass technology that prevents damage by skipping over mechanical resonance frequencies during operation. These resonances, if hit during ramping or steady speed, can amplify vibrations and stress and wear out components. The OJ compressor drives avoids predefined resonance bands by rapidly adjusting output frequency, ensuring smoother, quieter, and more reliable system performance.

5. Meet EMC and Harmonic Interference Requirements

EMC requirements protect industrial and residential areas from electromagnetic interference, and our compressor drives are in full compliance with EN 61800-3 (C1 and C2). Likewise, these drives generate little harmonic distortion, protecting sensitive equipment against harmonic interference – with no need for external filters.

6. Self-Contained and Easy to Position

Many supposedly cheaper compressor drives require the separate purchase and installation of necessary components. But once you’ve added up the cost of AC/DC chokes, EMC ferrites, an IP55 or NEMA 4x enclosure option, and other extras, the total cost can easily surpass that of an OJ compressor drive, which is completely self-contained with no extras needed. Another advantage is that these drives can be installed right beside the compressor, with no need for placement in dedicated cabinet and the additional thermal management, long cables, and installation work this arrangement requires.
